feeka

The project of the fictional company “feeka” was born within a curricular unit of the Multimedia Master’s Degree at Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto. The course aimed to “develop the students’ project management skills and team work skills in technological projects. Students will be capable of solving a vast diversity of problems, which may happen in these projects. This curricular unit will also stimulate students’ entrepreneurship”. To achieve this goal, students of Multimedia, Computer Engineering and Business were distributed among 5 fictional companies. These companies should have the entire hierarchy of a regular company, with CEO, CTO, CBO, CMO, and CCO staff, as well as branding, social networking, marketing strategies, and the like. In addition to these internal specificities, each company should develop and deliver 4 projects proposed by real companies.

My contribution

The feeka was undoubtedly the largest academic project I have ever worked. Greater in terms of responsibility, tasks / deliverables and visibility. I was elected by my Multimedia colleagues to head the company’s creative department, with the title of CCO. My involvement started in branding process for the feeka’s company. The name, which is inspired by the Swedish expression “fika”, was decided in an open vote with the participation of the entire company. In parallel with the name and the visual identity, we began to work the company culture, because the name feeka had a strong identity of lightness work and good interpersonal relationships. With the company branding ready, we divided the team (6 people) among the 4 projects proposed by the real companies. The projects had very different demands on our department. Some required a branding from scratch, some a rebranding, some just the interface design. Finally, at the end of the semester, we developed a supportive narrative for the final presentation, in order to find commonalities within the 4 projects that would make it easier for the viewer to understand

Some projects carried out

feeka company

“Fika” is an expression of the Swedish language that tries to translate the moment to stop or stop making, relaxing, having a coffee and eating a candy, in the company of friends. In that moment, relaxation and free thought, as new ideas emerge and solutions to emerging problems and difficulties. As a word “fika” closely resembles the Portuguese word “stay”, which would not be a good word for a company that looks to innovation. So we decided to change the writing to “feeka” in order to lose that relationship.

Electronic Failure Catalogue

The Critical Manufacturing project is based on the MES product, customized for device factories, semiconductors, among others. To improve this type of product, it is necessary that in each step there are errors detections, and so we produce an electronic catalog of errors/failures in which the worker can select by the machine or cell phone and then obtain a list with a report of all the bugs that will be sent to the office later.

In this project there was no relevant interference from the creative department.

Out-of-Stock

Proposed by Sonae Bit, the project aimed to optimize inventory replenishment through a system that detects empty shelves in order to avoid the bad appearance created by the lack of exposed products. The main point of the project was the use of machine learnig and image analysis for product recognition and its absence.
